Dear Northern Indiana Federal Credit Union Members:

We're reaching out to inform you about a concerning issue that has surfaced recently. It has come to our attention that some members have been contacted by individuals claiming to represent the Credit Union's Fraud Services Department. These imposters are falsely stating that there are suspiciously large purchases being attempted on their cards and are requesting sensitive debit card information such as the card number, security code, expiration date, and PIN under the guise of stopping these transactions.

We want to emphasize that Northern Indiana Federal Credit Union does not initiate contact with members via unsolicited phone calls, texts, or emails to request personal account information. Please note that we will never ask you for personal information through these channels.

Here are some crucial points to keep in mind:

  • Avoid Sharing Information: Do not disclose your passwords, PINs, one-time passcodes, or debit/credit card numbers, especially in response to unexpected calls or messages.
  • Exercise Caution with Emails: Refrain from opening emails from unfamiliar senders and avoid clicking on any links within these messages.
  • Review Your Statements: Regularly review your account statements for any unfamiliar or suspicious transactions. If something seems unusual, please notify us immediately at 219-942-3377.
To clarify our procedures, our legitimate Fraud Department can be reached at 888-918-7313. They will always identify themselves as the "Northern Indiana Federal Credit Union Fraud Department." Importantly, our genuine representatives will never ask for your card number or leave messages regarding specific charges in question.

Regrettably, we've observed an increase in fraudulent attempts, especially during this time of the year. Fraudsters are diligently trying various methods to obtain sensitive information. We have encountered multiple incidents, and it's crucial to remain vigilant and cautious.

Your security is our priority. If you suspect any fraudulent activity or have concerns about the security of your account, please reach out to us immediately. Together, we can work to ensure the safety and integrity of your financial information.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Ida Poole
